Change is inevitable. Especially when it comes to jobs and careers.
If you’re changing your job or career direction, or simply trying to hold on to the job you already have, our job coaching service could be just what you need.
We’ve coached senior executives from a wide range of industry sectors and professions – including marketing, general management, operations, HR, finance and business development – to secure their next role, retain their existing one, or to change career direction altogether.
So whether the decision to make a job change is your own, or if it's due to a company restructure, relocation or reorganisation, our coaching support can help.
Welcome to JAC Coaching
Our support is responsive, confidential and effective
Perhaps you're looking for a second opinion about a CV or covering letter you’re planning to send. Or if interviews are your Achilles’ heel, then you may want our help to sharpen your technique and improve your interview performance.
Our support can range from reviewing and helping you to improve your job applications, supporting you with interview preparation including a mock interview, advice about how to sell your skills and expertise to employers, or negotiating your exit from one company and securing the best remuneration and benefits package at the next.
Some of our clients have become stuck in a middle management role and have struggled to achieve the next step on the ladder. We’ve been able to work with them to identify the blockages and form a plan of action to help them secure their sought-after promoted post.
We’ve also helped those wanting to make more fundamental career transformations, like changing the sort of job they do or the sector or industry in which they work. And making a switch from full time to part time hours, or negotiating a job share is often challenging for those in senior positions. But with a well-considered plan and business case for change, we’ve helped it become a reality for many of our clients.
“From the first telephone conversation with Elaine, I realised this was someone I could work with … She was able to identify strengths to be emphasised and other areas where I needed to think more carefully about how I could evidence experience and knowledge…. It paid off, as I have now gained a position as Principle/Chief Executive and I know that the coaching and support I received from Elaine was key to my success” Chief Executive, Education sector
Coaching options
We offer three coaching packages that will help you to prepare for a 'live' job application or for a forthcoming interview.
A bespoke coaching service is also available for those wanting tailored help and support with other aspects of a job or career change, perhaps not related to the job application or interview stage.
3 PACKAGES TO CHOOSE FROM
Job Application preparation
If you're struggling with an application - either the application form, CV, covering letter, supporting statement, or any other aspect of the application, we will help you to make it relevant, dynamic and impactful - giving you the best chance of being selected for interview
How it works:
- Before our discussion with you, we'll review the job details (e.g. job description) to identify the essential and desirable skills, experience & competencies required for the position and match this against your existing CV, covering letter and application form, to identify any shortfall and areas for improvement.
- Discuss with you via video conference or phone (for up to 1 hour) the different ways in which your application could be improved. We'll talk through suggestions and examples of how it could be better tailored to the job and how to sell your skills and attributes to get you noticed by the recruiter. Plus any layout improvements required (particularly relating to Applicant Tracking Systems).
- Send a feedback report following our conversation confirming our discussion and the areas for improvement.
Interview coaching
If you're struggling to nail an interview due to nerves, an inability to answer questions with assurance or because your confidence has taken a knock following a number of job rejections, this package will get you back on track, preparing you for anything an interview throws at you
How it works:
- Before our discussion with you, we'll review the job details (e.g. job description) along with your CV, covering letter and application, to identify likely interview themes & questions, and any queries the interviewer may have about your submitted application.
- Discuss with you (for up to 1 hour) how you can sell yourself at the interview. Explore the likely themes and questions that may be covered at the interview, helping you to draw out relevant examples and achievements you can use. Explain how you can use a framework to structure your answers to make them more succinct and impactful. And discuss any gaps in your experience, skills, etc. the interviewer may raise with you and how you can prepare for and deal with this.
- Send a feedback report following our conversation confirming the key points of the coaching session.
Interview coaching + mock interview
A mock interview is invaluable if you're losing out at the interview stage. It gives you a chance to learn about, and importantly, to practice new interview skills in a safe environment and with an expert, who will coach you through the interview process until you've perfected it
How it works:
Option 3 is the same process as Option 2 (above), but with the added bonus of getting to practice and hone your interview skills
- Based on the job details, and before talking with you, we'll prepare a wide range of interview questions, including competency-based, with probing questions to follow up and test your answers.
- Discuss with you the interview themes (as per option 2 above), so that you can start to consider the examples you could use to demonstrate your skills, experience, etc. before the mock interview begins. The mock interview part of this 90 minute discussion usually lasts about 30 minutes, with time allowed for feedback afterwards.
- Send a feedback report following our conversation outlining where you performed well and how you could improve your answers and delivery.
“Elaine's a great interview coach and trainer who understands people and how to bring the best out in them. If you’ve got an interview coming up that you really want to nail, then I’d highly recommend her interview coaching and mock interview sessions. Even though I was getting interviews, I would blow it at the interview due to nerves and a lack of preparation around answering questions. Elaine helped me demonstrate my expertise and abilities when answering questions, as well as how to channel my nerves into giving a fantastic interview performance. Thanks to her, I secured the position I really wanted". Area Manager, Local Council
