Why don’t more people negotiate their salary package when they receive a job offer?
It's an interesting question. Some people don't even consider it. Others find it intimidating. And then there are those who choose not to negotiate, either because they’re afraid of possibly causing offence to their soon-to-be new employer. Or maybe they’ve been told by the recruiter that the package isn’t negotiable, so they don’t even try.
But it makes sense to at least attempt to secure the best possible remuneration package, as you could end up with not only enhanced benefits, but earning more money now, and in the future.
Negotiating is a skill. But one that can be learned. Our practical 'tried and tested' online training course will give you the tools, techniques and knowledge to help you successfully negotiate your salary & benefits package.
What's covered?
JAC's online course on negotiating a better salary and benefits package is designed to help you improve your job offer. Whether the offer is from your existing employer or a new organisation you're hoping to join.
The course includes a mix of video, audio and written content, along with up-to-date research, examples and forms, to guide you through the process.
In just under half an hour, we will take you through three main areas:
-
Firstly, we’ll look at some of the barriers and reasons why people don’t negotiate their remuneration package, separating myth from reality.
-
Then we consider how employers view salary negotiations. What concerns them. Their objections. And how you can counter and overcome these.
-
And finally we explain, step by step, the six stages involved in successfully negotiating your salary and benefits package.
"When I received my contract, I wasn’t happy with the salary or benefits being offered, especially as there was no mention of a company pension scheme. Elaine coached me through an approach I could use with the employer (that I was really keen to join) and I managed to successfully negotiate my contract. I achieved a better salary and more generous pension. I’m so grateful to Elaine for her advice and support". General Manager, Freight Management
How the programme is structured
There are three components to the training:
-
Six stage approach: a step by step approach with research-based facts and figures explaining how to negotiate your package.
-
Suggested wording: downloadable sample forms and suggested approaches you can use or tailor for your own negotiation.
-
Salary & benefits chart: a template to help illustrate the shortfall between what salary & benefits you want and what you've been offered, and where and how you can negotiate from this point.
